RED COMMUNICATIONS STARTS SUNDAY, JANUARY 11TH
Beginning this Sunday, January 11th - January 31st we encounter one of the cycles that many of us have trouble with: Red Communications or Mercury retrograde. When the planet Mercury, which represents communications, computers, transportation, schedules, and appointments, stops and turns around to "move backwards" we need to stop pushing forward with our projects and start fixing the things that fell through the cracks. This is the time when our mistakes demand our time to fix them OR we need to redo or rethink something important.
Do you have an important new product or service that you want to introduce in January? Don't do it during Mercury retrograde! When I was in the corporate world I watched the company (a sophisticated international company in marketing) introduce new products during Mercury retrograde with terrible results. This was a company which spent many thousands of dollars on market research and had a pretty good track record with forecasting sales. But whenever they introduced products during Mercury retrograde, the sales were only 40% of whatever they had forecasted. There was always a problem with the product or service, the literature, or promotion, and usually something big enough that it seemed logical to wait a few weeks to fix it. But we didn't wait! We insisted on pushing forward to introduce at some arbitrary time, to our own demise.
But what was the real reason sales of those products were 40% of forecast? My observation is that during Mercury retrograde, everyone goes bonkers trying to fix all the mistakes that suddenly show up. The reality is this: no one has time to notice or care about your new product or service. Your direct mail flyer or catalog will end up in the recycling bin without anyone even noticing what it was about. Your email announcement will be deleted or ignored. If you can't introduce your product or service by Wed, January 7th (but not during the Time-Out), it's best to wait until February to do this. This is the time to catch up and/or learn something. It's a great time to look back at the past and reconsider what happened and where you need to go now. This period is ideal for :
To prepare for Mercury retrograde, first schedule 50% less so you can have enough room in your schedule to handle the "crises" that arise from the fixes that are needed. Also be sure to do a full system computer back-up, so you can easily get back up and running if you have any computer failures (these occur more often during Mercury retrograde). Also remember to repair any funny noises for your cars before Sunday, so they don't break down. Lastly, remember to double-check all details for accuracy and your communications for clarity. This will save you a lot of time, money, and hassles! _________________________________________________
