WHAT’S UP WITH OIL?
Well we finally breached the $100 per barrel price for oil this week. And as oil went through the roof, so did gold. These two normally tend to closely track each other. The dollar of course looks pretty tattered and the stock market took another plunge. So what’s going on?
Astrologically, we’re seeing the effects of multiple cycles converging at once. We’re already in Mars retrograde, when commonly business can be slower than usual and this continues through January 30th. Plus in late December, the North Node moved into Aquarius, and this indicates we’re at the bottom of our economic cycle. Bad as this may sound, it’s actually good news, since there’s no where to go but UP. And we do have another economic cycle (Jupiter trine Saturn), which is helping to offset the bottom somewhat. In fact, Jupiter in Capricorn is part of the reason why we’re seeing higher commodity prices. We can expect this to continue through 2008.
I doubt we’re through the worst of this yet. It’s hard to say how the economy will react to Pluto in Capricorn, which tends to bring about major, permanent changes. This time those changes will be to governments and businesses, as well as non-profits and probably capitalism itself. Remember that Pluto moves into Capricorn on January 25th, and hasn’t been there since 1778. The last time it was there we had the American Revolution and transformed from a bunch of colonists to a sovereign nation.
That should give you some idea of the transformation we’re likely to see to the underpinnings of this economic slump. I’ve been writing for years about unsustainable debt levels, our enormous trade deficit, and the unbacked US dollar, which contributes inflation. Last year we added the sub-prime mortgage mess to all of that. How many more legs can you take out of the economy before it has no way to get up and run? We’re going to build a new economy during the next 16 years, and hopefully this one will be sustainable for ourselves, our businesses, and the planet.
