THE MOST POWERFUL ECLIPSE OF THE CENTURY: TODAY! Today's (or by now, yesterday's!) total solar eclipse is the most powerful one we'll have for more than one hundred years, until 2114. This is based on the length of the eclipse (6 minutes 39 seconds) and how close it occurs to the center of the Earth (centrality). This eclipse occurs at only 275 miles north of the center of the Earth. Plus the Moon is at it's closest point to Earth (called perigee) at 222.128 miles just 6.3 hours prior to the eclipse. It won't get closer to the Earth until November 14, 2016. Need I say more? This is a "super" eclipse! Now one of the phenomena associated with
"super Moons" (New or Full Moons with the Moon very close to earth)
are storms and earth changes. We can't know if this will occur with
this New Moon, Solar Eclipse, but in Also, although I've never seen any data around this, astrologers have said that the impact of an eclipse can last up to one year for each minute of the solar eclipse. If that's true, eclipse events that occur now (through August 21st)could have an impact for over 6 years. We will see! Today, the US chart is getting "eclipsed". The US Pluto is being opposed by this eclipse, suggesting that the power of the US is being diminished. The financial situation (too much debt) and the condition of our US dollar, seem to be the main culprits, but it's actually more than that. The Mayan Calendar also predicts a major shift in power from the west to the east at this time. We're just watching the beginning of the shift. The Federal Reserve is also getting "eclipsed" today. Its Neptune (associated with image, illusion and deception) is being diminished by this eclipse. Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, is speaking to Congress today and tomorrow (very interesting timing!) in the hopes that Congress won't require a full audit of the Fed and provide it some new powers. The Fed has got incredible challenges ahead of it. This is only the beginning. We'll see what shape it's really in by next August. All of the eclipses this summer have the same common meaning, which is this: There’s a sudden need to reform old ideas or methods due to unexpected failures of existing systems, processes or beliefs. New methods and ideas are REQUIRED to deal with these events. Blockages could be violently and tragically removed. So let’s be sure we’re making some new choices this summer! AN ECONOMIC UPDATE An interesting economic picture is emerging. The Wall Street Journal reported today (July 21st) that commercial loans are failing at the fastest pace in nearly 20 years. They expect to see losses on loans for office buildings, shopping malls, hotels, apartment buildings, and other commercial property reach about $30 billion by the end of 2009. This is more of a concern for Regional Banks, which typically make these type of loans. To date 57 banks have failed this year. Late next month, we'll enter a 19-month cycle that will be the low for the housing cycle and the high for the commercial property cycle. This is definitely not looking good for that high! In addition, Business Week reported (July 27th edition) that more and more companies are falling behind on their debt payments (The Time Bomb in Corporate Debts). According to Moody's Investors Service, the present default rate is over 11% and is predicted to peak at 12.8%. To date this year, 128 companies have defaulted, including General Motors, Eddie Bauer, and the aerospace company, Fairchild. An additional 207 companies are considered "vulnerable" to default. Plus they report that quite a few companies have"stays of execution" clauses built into their bonds. This allows them to put off interest payments for the life of the bond. At the moment, 23 companies have elected to choose this method, but eventually the bill comes due! Now about those bank earnings, do you understand that the banks got the reporting rules changed for how they value their mortgages? They used to be required to mark them down to the current market value. This made their balance sheets look miserable and regulators were requiring higher amounts of capital. So they got the accounting rules changed and now they no longer have to mark down their mortgages to the current property value. This is just a different way of lying to investors. It's easy to make your numbers look good when you can lie about them. So all those wonderful bank earnings are nothing more than a new way to do accounting and fudge the numbers. Have you also noticed that the euro is climbing against the US dollar lately? Yesterday it reached $1.4226 (meaning it cost $1.4226 to buy one euro). No doubt you've already noticed the price of gasoline, and oil has been in the $63 - $64 per barrel range this week. These are both signs of inflation and this is the kind of stuff that seeps into all product prices without any fanfare. This fall will have quite a few more economic challenges, with Saturn opposite Uranus in mid-September, and Saturn square Pluto beginning very late October. Both of these cycles are considered "negative" for the economy, but one piece of good news is that as of late August, we'll have passed the official "low" point of the economic cycle. Hopefully we won't go lower next year, but next year has some major economic challenges, which are similar to ones we had during the Great Depression. We still have major challenges ahead. The big questions will be: 1) How much more money will the US
government spend that it doesn't have? 2) Will China push for a new world currency sooner? 3) Will people push for the truth of the situation? If you want to bet on something more solid than the debt in our country and companies, gold is still an excellent investment. It will probably reach over $2000 per ounce and it could go a lot higher than that. At the moment, it's less than $1000 per ounce now. Gold is typically lower priced in the summer and it generally has it's biggest price jump in September.
