GOLD, OIL AND STOCKS

 

If you haven’t been paying attention to the price of gold, the spot price at the moment is $765 per oz. This means that 1 oz Gold Eagles are selling for just over $800 per ounce. Why is this important? The price of gold typically goes up as the value of the US dollar goes down. Indeed, the Euro has been at $1.42 this week (meaning it costs $1.42 in US dollars to buy one Euro). The Euro started off selling below a dollar back in 1999, so this gives you a good idea how much the value of the dollar has fallen since then.

 

In addition, yesterday the price of oil was $87.40 and that was down by $0.21. This is important in multiple ways, but there’s a direct correlation between the price of oil and the price of gold. An ounce of gold is generally 10 times the price of a barrel of oil. And as I mentioned in my previous email update, when the Wall Street Journal is talking about the possibility of $100 per barrel oil, (which they did recently on the front page) they’re preparing us. It’s just a hop to the $100 per barrel price, and this can easily occur if anything goes wrong in the supply line.

 

All of this suggests that the price of gold will go to at least $870 soon, assuming that the price of oil doesn’t drop significantly. And if oil goes to $100 per barrel, the price of gold will go up to $1000 per ounce. And that means the value of the dollar is continuing to decrease. As this continues to occur, it takes more and more dollars to buy the same thing (like a barrel of oil).

 

I point this out, because even if your stock portfolio is doing well on paper, (ie it’s growing) it might not be outgrowing the devaluation of the US dollar. For example, if your stocks have not gained at least 44% since 1999, then the value of your stocks has not kept even with the loss of the value of the US dollar. So even though it appears that your stocks have gained in value, it takes a lot more dollars to buy the same items now, and they’re not worth as much.

 

To actually have gained in value, your stock portfolio would have to be higher in value than the value of the decrease in the value of the US dollar (at least 44% since 1999). This is why foreigners are fleeing from US stocks and bonds. Even if they get a higher percentage rate, the value of their stock or bond is decreasing at a faster rate than they can overcome with the higher interest rate.

 

Why is this important? Because investors realize that their gains are not enough to overcome the falling value of the dollar and start looking for ways to store wealth without losing it. Especially now that the real estate market is in a major downturn (and won’t reach its bottom until July 2009), gold is a much safer bet than properties as a store of wealth. This is why the value of gold increases. And it’s why we’ll see the value of gold continue to increase, especially now with Pluto at the Galactic Center.

 

Right behind Pluto at the Galactic Center, we have Jupiter, the planet of growth and abundance, on its way to the Galactic Center. It will be there from the end of November through mid-December. So the price of gold should continue up through at least early – mid December and maybe longer.

 

From an astrological perspective, October 22^nd and October 28^th (and even the dates in-between) look like times when we could see investors sell suddenly . We get Venus opposite Uranus then and also Venus square to Jupiter. This suggests a large and sudden sell-off in the stock market. There’s no way to know if this is exactly what will happen, but considering the economic factors I’m seeing (higher prices for gold and oil), this is what is likely.
