| First of all, I am
snowed in with over a foot of snow and our power is iffy
(sometimes on, sometimes off). If you send me an email and don't
hear back from me, that means my power has gone out. If this
happens, I will contact you as soon as I can. Sorry about the
strange formatting problems with this one. We have lost power
several times tonight and my computer isn't happy about it.
ECONOMIC UPDATE: WHAT SHOWED UP WITH OUR FULL MOON? Last week's Full Moon was full of surprises, some of which we may not have fully seen yet. The Madhoff, giant ponzi scheme, which lost about $50 billion for major investors and foundations, has repercussions we won't know about for possibly months. It will take time for those losses get sorted out and trickle through the economy. Plus this means that other hedge funds will be seeing investors demanding their money back out of fear that something similar could happen to them. . In addition, an article in the Wall St Journal says that General Growth Properties, which owns 200 malls in the United States, missed a $900 million debt payment, which was due on December 12th. They are negotiating with creditors for another extension, but word on the street is that this company does not have the resources to come up with the payment. If this company finally files for bankruptcy protection, it will be the largest real estate bankruptcy in the history of the country. That would take quite a long time to sort out too. The US dollar did start going down again last week and gold started going up. (This is their normal pattern.) Fortunately the dollar did not drop dramatically. So it looks like it will hold out awhile longer, though it's hard to say how much longer it will do so. Now that the Fed has cut interest rates to between zero and 1/4% point, our dollar looks even less desirable. One article last week showed a report that suggests global demamd for oil will continue to plummet next year And speaking of that interest rate cut by the Fed, this is nothing more than the Fed pushing on a string. Rates were already at 1% when they cut them to nothing. Japan tried this tactic in the past too and it didn't work for them. That was primarily because the banks didn't want to lend money, which is exactly what we're seeing here now. There are already calls for the banks that got federal bail-out money to be scrutinized for what they are doing with it, since lending has not increased. Some companies are shutting their doors due to not being able to get credit lines. Now what about that production cut for oil that the OPEC countries approved? That was the largest production cut in their history. But one recent article said there are 50 million barrels of oil being stored in tankers at sea, which is a very expensive way to store that inventory. It's necessary though, since the land storage facilities are already full. It will take a little time to work off some of that excess, but not long. By the end of March oil prices will start heading upward again and they will stay high the rest of the year. So if you use oil to heat your home, get as much as you can now, while prices are low. Build up a reserve for next year. We're in a little window of deflation until late next March, so use this period to your advantage and stock up on whatever you use regularly. _____________________________________ OUR POWERUL SOLSTICE: DECEMBER 21ST This
